AMD Athlon 1000 MHz (Orion) Slot A CPU. For sale is world's first 1 GHz x86-based CPU – AMD Athlon 1000 (Orion) with Slot A interface. It was released 6 March, 2000 – two days earlier than Intel Pentium III 1 GHz! Rare thing for collection or retro build.

For the Slot-A AMD Druon or Athlon overclocking we used a so called 'Gold-Finger' device. A little piece of PCB hooked up to the (hidden) gold-finger connector of the AMD Athlon. Which works great. Athlon is the name of a family of CPUs designed by AMD, targeted mostly at the desktop market.It has been largely unused as just 'Athlon' since 2001 when AMD started naming its processors Athlon XP, but in 2008 began referring to single core 64-bit processors from the AMD Athlon X2 and AMD Phenom product lines.
